How does Online Learning work for students?

Students access our learning community live (synchronous) using video conference, chat, and on-demand (asynchronous) using purpose-designed learning activities and pre-recorded instructional content. We use CANVAS learning management system in conjunction with zoom as our teaching and learning interface with students.

Do I have to be a stay-at-home parent for my child to learn online?

No, our teaching team will be in daily contact with students. We encourage students to take ownership of their learning and, as such, to develop responsible learning habits. However, a nominated on-site supervisor is required for any issues that may arise and as the main contact.

Are subjects delivered live and in person by the teachers, or are they all pre-recorded?

Learning is both live (synchronous) and on-demand (asynchronous), allowing students to connect with their teacher and peers in real-time and in a delayed dialogue on CANVAS (our learning management system).

Is the curriculum the same as a physical school?

Yes, Pacific Online Christian School is a Campus of Pacific Coast Christian School and follows the NSW curriculum and NESA (New South Wales Education Authority) requirements. Pacific Coast Christian School is fully accredited through NESA to deliver curriculum via distance education through its subschool Pacific Online.

My child has additional needs. Can they still do online learning?

Yes, certainly. We will ensure all students will be provided with an individualised learning plan with appropriate adjustments to learning as required.

How do students build relationships with their peers while learning from home?

Students connect with their peers online using learning tools and intentionally designed learning experiences at our residential school sessions.

How will my child be supported academically, socially, and emotionally?

Much like a physical school environment, teachers and staff care for and seek to know your child’s learning journey. We seek to build a relationship where they feel known and valued as an important part of our school community. Staff check in live with students each morning to understand each student’s emotional wellbeing. We have planned activities during residential sessions coordinated by our well-being team focusing on healthy habits.

How do students complete practical parts of their subjects (e.g. science experiments)?

During our residential schools, students will complete practical components of their course. We design many learning activities uniquely so students can demonstrate practical learning outcomes and skills using available technological tools, which can often redefine the learning experience.

My child only wants to do one or two subjects that their current school doesn’t offer, can they do that?

Yes, we offer single course subjects.

My child is already attending a Pacific Group school, is there an additional cost for single subjects?

If the subject is not offered at their current school, there will be no additional charge for the course, though there may be costs associated with textbooks, materials, and excursions.

Where are the teachers and staff located?

We have staff all over NSW at our Pacific Group of Christian Schools campuses.
